Synopsis:

Eleven-year-old Lisa becomes the sole survivor of a classroom shooting. Struggling with fear, grief, and overwhelming survivor's guilt, she retreats into silence as her mom desperately searches for a way to help her heal. As they navigate the emotional aftermath together, My Safe Place explores the lasting impact of trauma through the eyes of a child. 


Brenda Patricia Garza

Bio:

Brenda Patricia Garza is an award-winning Texas filmmaker, director, producer, and casting director whose work is rooted in emotionally honest, socially conscious storytelling. Her documentary short Political Agenda earned multiple festival honors, including Best Texas Film, establishing her as a compelling new voice in independent cinema. Her latest film, My Safe Place, has continued that momentum, receiving awards including Best Director, Best Cast Ensemble, Special Jury Emotional Impact Award, and Best Crime Trailer.

Drawing on a background in journalism, casting, and production management, Garza brings an observant and compassionate perspective to stories centered on resilience, identity, and the lasting impact of trauma. Rather than sensationalizing tragedy, her films seek to amplify unheard voices and inspire reflection, meaningful conversation, and healing.

In addition to directing, Garza has worked extensively in casting, production management, and assistant directing across feature films, documentaries, commercials, and digital media. She is the founder of Out of Reality Entertainment and RGV Talent Consulting, where she mentors emerging talent, champions independent filmmakers, and advocates for intentional, collaborative storytelling that creates lasting impact.
