Errors and Trials

Synopsis: Errors and Trials is a 13-minute experimental project shot on Super 8 mm Kodak film. The audio is Left, Right, Center (LRC). The left and right audio channels have manipulated everyday sounds from inside and around the house to sound nothing like they do in reality. Audio filters and effects were experimented with and modified. Left and Right audio channels contain the same audio recordings, but the left audio channel uses different filters and effects than the right audio channel. The Center channel is everyday ambience sounds from outside that have not been modified other than playing really low in the background. The film does not have a story. It was recorded in Pharr, Texas; a park in Edinburg, Texas; and at South Padre Island, Texas. Video Editing techniques experimented with were Chroma Keying, changing color properties, jumping into the air, stop motion, masking, tracking, and 3D Text. The Center audio channel will not be heard if the project is not played on a surround sound system.

Statement:

I love learning new things and this project took many hours to complete. I edited the audio files first and this took several months. I experimented with filters and effects on the audio clips and made the Left audio channel sound different from the Right audio channel by adjusting the many settings. The recorded audio sounds, after editing, do not resemble reality. They sound strange and unusual. The Center audio channel is ambience and room tone and was not changed other than bringing the levels down really low. The film stock used was Kodak 200T and 50D. The film shooting took place in Pharr, Edinburg, and South Padre Island, Texas. There isn't a narrative story. The project is 100% "Errors and Trials" and I learned a ton about Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Audition. There is still much more to learn!
