Synopsis:

In Echoes from Brownsville: The Rubio Murders, CHANNEL 5 NEWS examines a case that has haunted Brownsville for decades. In 2003, three children Julissa, John, and Mary Jane were murdered at the hands of their parents, John Allen Rubio and Angela Camacho.

The Channel 5 News original documentary features the first on-camera interview of convicted death row inmate John Allen Rubio. Rubio addressed his actions and his claim that the children were possessed in his interview with CHANNEL 5 NEWS reporter Stefany Rosales.

The documentary includes accounts from officers who responded on the night of March 11th as they describe the scene where the children were discovered decapitated. Looking back at the profound impact the tragedy left on the Rio Grande Valley community, the case still weighs heavily on the community.

While the prosecution maintains the murders were a calculated act, the defense continues to cite the mental state of Rubio as his November 2026 execution date approaches. Camacho is serving a life sentence in prison, and Rubio was sentenced to death.
