ADELA

Synopsis:
Adela travels with her fiancé, Alonso, to the remote hacienda of her wounds begin to resurface. Surrounded by whispers, unsettling presences, and memories that seem to come alive, Adela descends into a spiral of psychological terror where she can no longer distinguish the supernatural from her own mind. Immersed in an atmosphere of magical realism, she must confront the demons of her past before the hacienda consumes her completely.

Bio:
Gabriela Sanmiguel is a Mexican-American filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer based in McAllen, Texas, originally from Monterrey, Mexico. She began her career in 1990 as a screenwriter for Burundango y su Loca TV alongside Óscar Burgos, and since then, she has developed a multidisciplinary career spanning film, television, theater, journalism, radio, music videos, conceptual art, social media, and podcasting. She holds a degree in Mass Communication from the Institute of Communication, Arts, and Humanities of Monterrey (ICAHM), where she also taught screenwriting and audiovisual production, in addition to studies in Fashion Design at the Design Center of Monterrey. Her work reflects a solid foundation in narrative structure and visual storytelling. Influenced by filmmakers like Carlos Enrique Taboada and Álex de la Iglesia, she specializes in horror and dark comedy, blending atmospheric tension with humor to explore identity, emotion, and human behavior from a bicultural and border perspective. Her credits include writing, producing, and acting in several feature films such as Una Buena Película de Acción and Evil in Me, as well as directing the short film Imagina (2024) and the feature film Adela (2025), solidifying her as an emerging genre filmmaker in independent cinema.
